We are deeply saddened by the shooting that has happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.  This is the second worst school tragedy in our US history.  We want our parents and  community to be aware of our Skyridge School Safety plan.  It is approved by our Site Council, the School Board and Auburn Police Department.  Please take time to read and become familiar with our plan and let staff know if you have questions or concerns.  I am attaching a pdf file of the plan.  All of the school plans are available on the district website auburn.k12.ca.us under the Instructional Services tab. Thank you for being present and supportive at Skyridge and helping us to keep a safe environment for the students.  Jenn Lewandowski

Happy Thanksgiving Holiday!

Due to the conferencing schedule this week...there will be no Falcon Flyer.
  • We had great weather today for our first day of Running School.  The students were able to enjoy the self-paced obstacle course, as well as the sprint races. Thank you to Brad, Ann and all of the teacher and parent volunteers for making this a smooth running event!
  • The lost and found clothing has been on display for over a week. Make sure to stop tomorrow to look for any missing items before they are donated next week.
  • We will be having our 1st Trimester Awards Assembly tomorrow.  4th/5th assembly is 8:15, 1st-3rd is 9:15.  We will be handing out attendance awards (2 lucky Perfect Attendance students will be drawn to receive $40 Visa gift cards), Honor Roll, VIP (Very Improved Performance) Awards for students that made 10% or greater growth on the STAR Test last spring, and Citizenship Awards.  This is always a fun way to celebrate our students effort and success!
  • School Site Council meeting will be held Tuesday, November 27th @ 2:30 in the library.
Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!  See you on Monday, November 26th!

Update on the Fire

Hi Skyridge Families! It has been an interesting week here at school.  We were very lucky that the fire that was started behind the 4th and 5th grade portables was spotted quickly and contained before any damage to classrooms could occur.  I want to give a special Skyridge THANK YOU to our volunteers in the Life Lab, Kasa and Julie Thompson for the weed eating they did in the Life Lab just a few days ago.  Their care of the property probably saved room 21 from catching on fire!  Also, a Thank You to all of the community members and parents that responded with buckets and hoses to help contain the fire until the fire department arrived.  Thank You Auburn Fire Department, Newcastle Fire, and Cal Fire for your quick response and saving the classrooms.  If you have any information on how the fire was started please call the school or Auburn Police Department.

Principal's Weekly Message

Dear Parents,

One of the focus areas for all Skyridge students this year is ACADEMIC VOCABULARY.  We want all students exposed to, taught explicitly, using rigorous vocabulary in and out of class.  Each month a different grade level will develop their version of advertising their math and language arts ACADEMIC VOCABULARY.  September is 5th Grade and I wanted to thank Ms. McGonagill and her students for putting the bulletin board together in the MPR, take a moment to check it out.  A special THANK YOU to:  Jezibelle Stephens, Chris LeBleu, and Faith Vercruyssen for their creativity on the display.  Make sure to ask your 5th graders to tell you about: idioms, metaphors, similes, inference, and main idea.

Thank you and have a great week.

Mrs. Lewandowski
